So today I woke up naturally, with bright sunshine streaming through my windows, kitties curled up warmly....eerrrRRRRRR (screeching record sound).
Oh, wait, that's right. I woke up frantically to the sound of my FOUR smoke detectors going off, the cats running around crazily, and my heart and brain quickly racing to catch up with what was going on.
I checked around my apartment: no smoke, no fire (so I guess it's true what the say...well, in reverse); just agitated kitties. I peaked into the stairwell. Sure enough, deafening noise, strobes flashing everywhere...
I went out on my balcony to see a few people evacuating and congregating in the streets in their jammies. Well good mornin', Dolly!*
I grabbed my pink robe, my ridiculous red Floatie shoes, and tromped down the stairs.
Maintenance showed up. Finally. Finally The World's Worst Noise was silenced.
And then the firetruck arrived. I was really starting to panic, frantically searching the sky for smoke.
But then we all huddled for The Announcement. The hot, sweaty firefighters (okay, older and tired-looking firefighters) told us that... wait for it... someone had pulled the GD alarm. O. M. G.
I've heard of this crap happening at schools, but an apartment complex? RightHand says I'm paranoid, but I'm always thinking of the next way someone is trying to commit a crime against me.** So, today, my theory was that someone pulled the alarm, knew people would evacuate, and then subsequently robbed them. Thus, I certainly locked my apartment door on my way out.***
So, I was finally released to return to my slumber. As I began to drift off to sleep, these final words passed through my lips in a whisper: "I will find you. I will find you and I will kill you."
Because I'm a bad ass like that.****
And one last treat. Here's a picture of ALL. THAT. DRAMA.:
* Last time I checked I was 24, but the numbers may have been smudged; 84 sounds more accurate.
** There's that 84 yr. old talkin' again.
***Also didn't want the maintenance folks breaking in to find 3 cats and no paid pet deposit...shhhh...
**** I'm not a bad ass. At all. But you already knew that. ;)

A Grave Discovery
During the BLIZZARD OF '09 OMG BUY SOME MILK AND BREAD!, I was looking around more than usual (the quiet! the beauty!) and I actually spied some gravestones sticking out of the woods near my apartment. Now, RightHand and I share a love of old graveyards (strange, it wasn't even on our match.com profiles...!), so we went exploring a few weeks ago.
Now, I live on a road with "Jennings" in the name...and guess what we found! The grave of 'Ol Man Jennings (well, as we now call him...His real name is William, but his friends probably called him Bill). ANYWAY, the grave and others are in this random, chain-linked fenced-off area (aka: classy!) in the middle of suburbia. Tucked away, not noticeable. But what a beautiful find:

Road Runnin'
Okay, so I'm not running the race this year myself (or maybe ever), but I love the annual revealing of the Peachtree Road Race t-shirt. It's quite a tradition here in the United States the South Georgia Atlanta my mind. This year, it was so hard to choose which one to vote on, but I finally picked- can you guess which one I liked? And which one is your fave?

Tragedy
Due to my location in Athens, GA, I can't help but be affected by the tragic shootings this weekend. I've been a little more jumpy and watchful lately, but that cannot compare with the effects on those who lost loved ones and friends.
To give you a taste of the panic on Saturday, here is what the University of Georgia's homepage looked like- NOT what you want to see!
Stay safe, everyone.

Really Belated Caturday
This (belated) Caturday, I'm showcasing my new foster kitty, Cheeto! Isn't her name just adorable? Makes me hungry every time I call her... teehee.
She comes from a hoarding situation where the people had about 60 cats. She has an upper respiratory infection (and is thus under kitty quarantine!) and she is undernourished and scared. But we are making great strides! RightHand helped me clean her ears, trim her nails, AND give her a bath this weekend! We all came out minimally scarred.
If you're interested in her (and in Georgia!), please let me know. She is turning out to be such a sweet little girl with so much love to give!

This is about all I saw of her in the beginning! She was a bit timid and fell in love with the shower curtain!
There she is!
There she is!
Really Belated Friday Foto
It's really no surprise anymore-- these posts are always late! But the alliteration is just too alluring to change the day... ;)
As always, here are my favorites from the week, and you can pick yours and vote here.

AXE Effect
So, I mentioned AXE briefly on my blog a few weeks ago while complaining about men's/boys' scruffiness, and the company actually wrote me to offer me a free sample to try out on RightHand/male friends. They gave me a choice of one shampoo and one styling gel from this page. RightHand and I chose the AXE 2 in 1 Shampoo + Conditioner and the AXE Spiked-Up Look Putty:
Although I have many misgivings about AXE's sexist and heterosexist advertisements (see an example here and here), I figured there's no harm in trying the product for free and I appreciated their outreach.
So, RightHand was the guinea pig and here are the results:
Before the AXE effect:
After using the AXE 2 in 1 Shampoo + Conditioner and the Spiked-Up Look Putty:
SEXAY!!!
Gatsby even got in on the experiment:
Kidding, kidding. That was after his bath, which you know he just loved. You know who else loved it? RightHand. Because what's not to love about have a cat's claws literally hooked into your skin? Ah, good times...
Anyway, back to AXE.
RightHand and Isometimes always shower together to save water, so I was with him when he tried the shampoo/conditioner. It smelled GREAT, which is probably one of the most important selling points as far as most women are concerned.
He loved the putty, and it really didn't leave his hair too stiff or sticky. It was perfectly okay to go to bed with it in his hair and it didn't mess up the pillow or anything.
From my perspective, the putty was surprisingly soft- no stiff, untouchable spikes! It was great and I really liked the look.
The final verdict: AXE, give your advertising department a talkin'-to, but the products were great and high quality. Thank you!

Spring Has Sprung!
Finally! My favorite season is here!! Here are some pictures I took of the beautiful spring blooms around the law school. I especially enjoyed getting artsy with the raindrops on the tulips!
